Circus by salute: Conceptual Album Branding

Studio 3: Designing for Music
RMIT University,
Studio Lead: Bradley Pinkerton
This was a creative project developed for my Studio 3: Designing for Music course at RMIT University. The project envisions the branding and rollout campaign for DJ salute's [fake] album Circus, showcasing a comprehensive approach to album promotion.

The brief required the development of a complete album branding campaign, including a variety of assets such as album covers, tour posters, merchandise designs, and vinyl packaging. The challenge was to create an original album name and track listing, and to design all elements without using artist photography.

Inspired by the euphoric and melancholic tones of salute.'s music, I conceptualised the album Circus as an exploration into identity, fluidity, and culture. The aesthetic mirrors his experiences from touring Asia, Europe, and North America, incorporating the vibrant and nostalgic feel of the Japanese city pop aesthetic. The album title pays homage to Circus Osaka, a club he often plays at.

Understanding salute's inspirations and style was key to developing a strong visual language. This project allowed me to explore innovative design approaches and deepen my understanding of music branding, ultimately shaping my own visual direction.

Deliverables for this project included:
  • Album cover design
  • Tour posters
  • Merchandise (t-shirts, hats, etc.)
  • Vinyl packaging
